63 degrees in Alaska, in November?!

Thursday was a beautiful day. I really think it was one of the prettiest days we have had here in Dutch Harbor since I moved here 3 years ago. Seriously, it was 63 degrees! Can you believe that?! 63 degrees in November...in ALASKA! Crazy.
So of course, with weather like that, we couldn't spend the day inside. We had to get out and enjoy every minute of it! I have been wanting to hike Bunker Hill for quite a while now, but have just never gotten around to it. Thursday was the perfect day to head out and try.
Just another reason to love homeschooling. We can drop everything to spend a wonderful day outside.

A and I had a ton of fun.
She enjoyed looking at all the fall colors along the way...
taking in all the views...
...and snacking on cranberries along the trail.

And really the views from the top of the trail are AMAZING!
When you reach the top, there is a huge WWII bunker overlooking the port of Dutch Harbor..

...With a spectacular view of Captains Bay from the other side.

A and I spent time lounging in the tundra and enjoying the beauty of it all...

...and with a world that looks like this, how could we not?
We are amazingly blessed to have this beauty surrounding us each day.

We exploring the crumbling WWII structures scattered around the top of the mountain. The history of this place is incredible.

A played "ring around the gun turret!" Oh what a childhood she is having. These are the days she will remember for all her life.

The magical moments of childhood play, on top of a mountain overlooking the Bering Sea. She is truly a lucky child.

Ah! One of the most beautiful places on earth.
